והא תמן מייבלין אוריתא גבי ריש גלותא א"ר יוסה בי רבי בון תמן ע"י שזרעו של דוד משוקע שם אינון עבדין לו כמנהג אבהתון. תמן תנינן מדלגין בנביא ואין מדלגין בתורה מדלגין בנביא ואין מדלגין מנביא לנביא ובנביא של שנים עשר מותר אין מדלגין בתורה ר' ירמיה בשם רשב"ל שאין גלין ס"ת ברבים ר' יוסה בעי הגע עצמך שהיתה פרשה קטנה אלא כדי שישמעו ישראל תורה של סדר והא תנינן קורא אחרי מות ואך בעשור שנייא היא שהיא סדרו של יום תדע לך דארשב"ל בכל מקום אינו קורא על פה והכא קורא ר' יוסה מפקד לבר עולא חזנא דכנישתא דבבלאי כד דהיא חדא אוריא תהא גייל לה להדי פרוכתא כד אינון תרתי תי מייבל חדא ומייתא חדא: ומברך עליה שמנה ברכות על התורה הבוחר בתורה על העבודה שאותך נירא ונעבוד על ההודייה הטוב לך להודות על מחילת העון מוחל עונות עמו ישראל ברחמים על המקדש הבוחר במקדש וא"ר אידי השוכן בציון על ישראל הבוחר בישראל על הכהנים הבוחר בכהנים על שאר תפלה ותחינה ובקשה שעמך ישראל צריכין להוושע לפניך בא"י שומע תפלה:

R’ Achva bar R’ Zeira said they were occupied with the reading of shema, this is what it says “and you shall speak of them…” (Devarim 6:7) R’ Yodah ben Pazi said they were occupied with the creation of the world, this is what it says “By the word of the Lord, the heavens were made…” (Tehillim 33:6) R’ Yodan b’rei R’ Ibo said they were occupied with the consolation of Jerusalem as it says “…speak to the heart of Jerusalem…” (Yeshayahu 40:2)The Rabbis said that they were occupied with the matter of the chariot, this is what it says “…and behold a fiery chariot and fiery horses…” (Melachim II 2:11)…
